"Skating is the foundation of hockey and the key that unlocks every other skill in the game. My philosophy is built on the belief that great players are not simply born—they are developed through deliberate practice, attention to detail, and a love for moving on the ice.
I believe in teaching skating as both a science and an art. The science is found in the mechanics—balance, edges, stride efficiency, and body control. The art is found in the creativity, confidence, and flow that come once those fundamentals are mastered.
Skating should feel powerful, effortless, and fun.
I value progression. Every skater, no matter their age or level, has the ability to improve. My role is to meet players where they are, challenge them appropriately, and build their confidence step by step. By breaking down complex skills into simple, repeatable movements, I help athletes create strong habits that translate directly to game performance."
Ultimately, my philosophy is simple:
teach the fundamentals, develop creativity, and build confidence so that every skater can
Get the Edge both on and off the ice.
- Sandra Findlay
"At Get the Edge, my philosophy is to focus on sharpening each player’s individual weaknesses while also preparing them for common in-game situations—whether it’s learning how to attack with confidence or defend effectively under pressure. I believe in creating a positive, encouraging environment where players feel supported as they grow. By helping each player develop both their skills and their character, we not only build stronger individual players, but also create a stronger team as a whole.
Skating is the foundation of the game. Every stride, every edge, and every turn is an opportunity to grow not only as a player but also as an athlete and a person. My philosophy of skating is built on three pillars: technique, effort, and confidence.
I believe that skating is not just about speed—it’s about control, balance, and efficiency. Proper technique allows players to move with power while conserving energy, giving them the ability to perform at their best throughout an entire game. By focusing on the details of edge work, stride mechanics, and body position, players can unlock their true potential on the ice.
Effort is the non-negotiable. No matter a player’s starting point, consistent effort and repetition lead to progress.
Skating rewards persistence; the more time spent refining skills, the more natural and confident movement becomes.
Confidence is the result of preparation. When players trust their edges, their stride, and their ability to adapt under pressure, they play freely and creatively. My goal is to help skaters build that confidence so they can express themselves on the ice, make quicker decisions, and elevate their game.
At its core, my philosophy is simple: teach players to move with purpose, compete with passion, and believe in themselves.
Motto: “Skating isn’t a skill—it’s the skill.”

Maximize every minute you have on the ice
"At Get The Edge, we believe that elite performance is built on a foundation of technical mastery. By maintaining smaller group sizes and high-tempo environments, we ensure every player receives the individual feedback and “puck time” necessary to turn raw potential into game-changing skill. We don’t just run drills; we build hockey players".
